3-2-1 Go!

I’m trying out a new format this week. Would love your feedback, if you’re willing to share it!
James Clear inspired this new look. It’s called 3-2-1. I’ll provide 3 ideas from me, 2 quotes from others, and 1 question for you.
Also, I’ve partnered with the great Roberto Ferraro to license his illustrations for my content.
This week’s theme: trust & psychological safety. This means members of a team feel safe speaking up & speaking out about their concerns, questions, and ideas.
The benefits of psychological safety at work include 27% reduction in turnover, 76% more engagement, and 50% more productivity.
Here’s how to build it.
3 Ideas From Me
1. The first rule of leadership: when someone says you aren’t communicating, what they really mean is you aren’t listening.
2. Many think the worst thing a leader could do is not ask their people for feedback. Actually, the worst thing a leader can do is ask for feedback and proceed to do nothing about it.
3. The best way to build trust is to spend more time together, but we live in an anti-meeting culture. Meetings aren’t the enemy—poor uses of meetings are.
2 Quotes from Others
1. “Success depends on welcoming, not shooting, the messenger.” Amy Edmondson
2. “We pay too much attention to the most confident voices—and too little attention to the thoughtful ones. Certainty is not a sign of credibility. Speaking assertively is not a substitute for thinking deeply. It’s better to learn from complex thinkers than smooth talkers.” Adam Grant
1 Question For You
How much time a week do you spend listening to others’ feedback and input on your ideas?
Eating my own dogfood now, will you provide feedback and input about this new format so I can continue making this newsletter better? Just send me a message to chris@peoplebeforethings.co (not .com).
Your coach,
Chris
